James was born at Lowestoft in 1869, a son of William and Susan(na) Adams. He was baptised at All Saints' Church, Pakefield, on 25 July 1869, and his family lived at Pakefield. In 1871 their address was Church Street, Pakefield, and by 1881 they were living at 4 Mickelburgh's Cottages, Pakefield.
Rose Clarke
A Civilian, Rose died on 9th of April 1941 aged 46.
Rose was born at Lowestoft on 8 October 1894, a daughter of Charles Henry and Isabelle Chapman. In 1901 they lived at 15 Scarle’s Buildings, Whapload Road, and this was still their home in 1911 when Rose worked as a net mender.
On 26 December 1918 Rose married Bertie Clarke at Saint Margaret’s Church. They both gave their address as 63 Oxford Road. In 1921 they lived at 23 Payne Street and Bertie was a trawler fisherman. By 1939 they were living at 100 Rotterdam Road and Bertie was a general labourer.
William Garwood Cleveland
A Chief Skipper with H.M. Trawler Myrtle, William died on 14 June 1940, aged 46.
William was born at Lowestoft on 25 April 1894, a son of James and Mary Cleveland. He was baptised at Saint John’s Church on 25 May 1894 and his family lived at 7 Wollaston Road. In 1901 his family lived at Laundry Lane. By 1911 his father had died, and his family lived at 4 Strand Street. Later they lived at 3 Spurgeon Street. By the 1950s William’s mother lived at 273 Saint Peter’s Street.
Henry Cox
A Civilian, Henry died on 22nd of July 1941, aged 46.
Henry is believed to have been born at Whitechapel, London, on 1 January 1894, however his year of birth may have been 1895. His father was Robert Cox. No member of Henry’s family can be traced in any census record before 1921, however Henry and two of his brothers served in the Royal Marine Light Infantry and details of their early life have been found in their service records.
James Crooks
A Skipper with Trawler Acacia, James died on 1st of December 1919 at the age of 46.
James was born at Ipswich in 1873, a son of John and Amelia Crooks. His father died in 1879 and his mother married William Keeble. In 1881 his family lived at 5 Handford Cut, Ipswich.
On 20 October 1897 James married Jane Elizabeth Hales at Saint Margaret’s Church. James was a mariner and they both gave their address as 22 Seago Street. In 1899 they lived at Arnold Street. In 1901 they lived at 2 Tennyson Road, and by 1911 were living at 24 Seago Street.
Thomas William Dowsing
A Deck Hand with H.M. Drifter Waveney II., Thomas died on 26th of October 1916 at the age of 46.
Thomas was born at Lowestoft in 1871, a son of Thomas Henry and Mary Ann Dowsing. He was baptised at Saint Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, on 7 May 1871. In 1881 his family lived at Wright's Cottages, 1, Beccles Road, Lowestoft. By 1893 his family was living at 3 Ipswich Road, Lowestoft, and Thomas worked as a plumber.
Charles William Harston
A Civilian, Charles died on 21st of August 1940 aged 46.
Charles was born at Lowestoft on 20 August 1894, a son of Charles and Caroline Harston. By 1901 Charles’ father had died and his family lived at 14 Clemence Street.
On 2 August 1923 Charles married Elsie Gertrude Stammers at Saint Margaret’s Church. Charles was a shipwright and both Charles and Elise lived at 85 Oxford Road. By 1939 they lived at 135 Kimberley Road and Charles was a shipbuilder.
Bertie Edward Hunt
A Mate with Fishing Vessel Westfield (Milford Haven), Bertie died on 6th of July 1941 at the age of 46.
Bertie was born at Lowestoft on 8 June 1895, a son of Ephraim and Elizabeth Frances Hunt. He was baptised at Christchurch, Lowestoft, on 3 July 1895, and his family lived at 5 Rant Score East, Lowestoft, which was still their home in 1901. By 1911 the family were living at 1 Salter Street, Whapload Road, Lowestoft.
Arthur Edwin Melhuish
A Second Hand with Trawler Ivy (Lowestoft), Arthur died on 17th of December 1914 at the age of 46.
Arthur was born at Hastings in 1868, a son of Eli Henry and Emma Melhuish. In 1871 his family lived at 8 Irchester Street, Ramsgate. By 1881 they were living at 72 Milton Road, Margate.
On 17 October 1881 Arthur began a seven year merchant navy apprenticeship with G. L. Cladingbowl of Ramsgate.
Harry Spicer Sharman
A Chief Engineman with H.M. Trawler Hayburn Wyke. Harry died on 2nd of January 1945 at the age of 46.
Harry was born at Lowestoft on 3 August 1897 (hence was actually 48 when he died), a son of John Edward James and Mary Anne Sharman. Between 1901 and 1911 Harry's family lived at 4 Wilde's Score, Lowestoft, and the 1911 Census shows Harry working as a Telegraph Boy.
Alfred Ernest Slater
A Civilian, Alfred died on 13th of January 1942 aged 46.
Alfred was born at Hitcham, Buckinghamshire, on 26 March 1895, a son of Edward and Ann Slater. He was baptised at St Mary’s Church on 5 May 1895. In 1901 his family lived at 4 Bath Cottages, Hitcham, and this was still their home in 1911 when Alfred was an outfitter’s apprentice.
By 1921 his family were living at Rotherby, Station Estate, Burnham, Buckinghamshire, and Alfred was an outfitters assistant for J. Hatton & Co. Gentleman’s Outfitters at 3 Queens Street, Maidenhead.
John William James Tucker
A Skipper with H.M. Armed Fishing Smack Ivanhoe, John died on 9th of January 1919 at the age of 46.
John was born at Lowestoft on 11 February 1872, a son of John James and Anne Tucker. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 4 September 1881 and his family lived at 2 Mill Road. By 1891 they were living at 6 Waveney Terrace, Whapload Road. Later his parents lived at 92 Clapham Road.
Frederick Jeremiah Warford
A Mate, Frederick died on 21st May 1947 at the age of 46.
Frederick was born at Kirkley in 1901, a son of William Daniel and Laura Warford. In 1911 his family lived at 59 Saint Georges Road, Lowestoft.
Frederick, like his father, was a fisherman. During World War One Frederick served with the Fisheries Reserve and became a Deck Hand on the drifter 'Lord Roberts' (LT 149) [Note this is not the trawler Lord Roberts that was sunk in 1916]
On 6th January 1924 Frederick married Gladys Louisa Beavers at Saint Peters Church, Kirkley.
