Clifford was born at Oulton in 1891, a son of William John and Isabella Scarle. He was baptised at Saint Peter’s Church, Carlton Colville, on 8 November 1891. In 1891 his family lived near Saint Mark’s Church, Oulton Broad, and by 1901 at Main Road, Carlton Colville. By 1911 they were living at Bridge Road, Oulton Broad, and Clifford was an apprentice plumber and painter. By 1916 his parents’ address was Foxboro House, Bridge Road, Oulton Broad.

Robert was born at Corton in 1889, a son of Frederick C and Emma Buttifant. He was baptised at Saint Bartholomew’s Church, Corton, on 6 January 1889. In 1891 his family lived at Mill Lane, Corton. By 1901 they were living at High Street, Corton. Later his parents lived at 1 Rose Cottage, Corton.
Robert joined the Metropolitan Police on 27 December 1909 and was a keen footballer and cricketer and member of the Police Athletic Club.

A Company Sergeant Major with 12th Field Company, Walter died on 21st of March 1918 at the age of 42.
Walter was born at Pakefield in 1876, a son of Latha and Eliza Harriet Rouse. In 1881 his family lived at 2 Beanes Cottages, London Road, Pakefield. BY 1891 they were living at 79 Cambridge Road, Lowestoft, and later they lived at 72 Osborne Street, Lowestoft.
Walter married Ellen Mooney at Kilworth, County Cork, on 12 August 1910. After Walter's death Ellen lived at Ballyderowne, Kilworth, County Cork.

Eris was born at Lowestoft on 3 June 1923, a son of Herbert George and Ethel May Robbens. On 8 July 1923 he was baptised at Saint Michael's Church, Oulton, and his family lived at Kemps (Camps) Heath. In 1939 his family lived at 76 Bridge Road, Oulton, Lowestoft, and Eric was a factory hand at a box factory.

George was born at Oulton in 1888, a son of Samuel and Anna Brown of 7 Fir Lane, Lowestoft.
George enlisted in the Norfolk Regiment, at Great Yarmouth, and had service number 6430. At some point he transferred to the Royal Engineers, with service number 19721.

Bernard Asquith Walker
A Sapper with 1st Field Company, West Riding Division, Bernard died on 17th of January 1915 at the age of 19.
Bernard was born at Leeds in 1896, a son of Charles Asquith Walker and Maude Clarke Walker. In 1901 his family were living at 88 Craven Road, Leeds, and in 1911 at 36 Shakespeare Road, Rotherham. After the First World War his family moved to Lowestoft and lived at of 42 A High Street.
Bernard was working as a fitter and living at 36 Shakespeare Road, Rotherham, when he enlisted in the Royal Engineers, at Sheffield, on 5 October 1914.

A Sapper with 208th Field Company, Esmond died on 21st of March 1918 at the age of 20.
Esmond was born at Lowestoft in 1898, a son of John and Zillah Sterry. He was baptised at Saint John's Church, Lowestoft, on 6 March 1898, and his family lived at Alma Road. In 1901 their address was 5 Alma Road and this was still their address in 1911. Later his parents lived at 7 Grosvenor Road, Lowestoft.
Esmond enlisted in the Army at Lowestoft. He joined the Royal Engineers, service number 84668. He was posted to France to serve with 208 Field Company.

Frank was born at Lowestoft on 4 March 1877, a son of William and Esther Sustins. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 2 September 1877. In 1881 his family lived at 40 Albert Street and by 1891 at 8 Albert Street and Frank worked as an errand boy. By 1901 Frank’s father had died and his family lived at 4 Edinburgh Road and Frank worked as a bricklayer. Later his mother lived at 39 Melbourn Road, 67 Crown Street, and then 7 Avondale Road, Lowestoft.

Thomas was born at Lowestoft on 12 July 1883, a son of Robert Crane and Elizabeth Claxton. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church, Lowestoft, on 2 September 1883. In 1891 his family lived at 2 Wide’s Score. By 1901 they were living at 121 Wollaston Road and Thomas was a coal dealer, probably working with his father.

In 1921 his family lived at Kings Cottage, Monnington on Wye, Brobury, Herefordshire. By 1934 Cuthbert’s father had become the Rector of Gisleham and his family lived at Gisleham Rectory.

James was born at Pakefield on 28 August 1917, a son of James and Marion Elizabeth Read. James’ father had died in July 1917. James was baptised at All Saints’ Church, Pakefield, on 14 October 1917 and his family lived at Kirkley. In 1921 his family lived at 43 William Street. By 1939 they lived at 4 Wilson Road and James was a bricklayer.

Frederick was born at Pakefield on 19 September 1914, a son of John Edward and Emily Folkard Harper. In 1921 his family lived at 38 Sycamore Avenue, Oulton Broad.
On 10 October 1934 Frederick married Mabel May Swatman at Saint Michael’s Church, Oulton. Frederick was a gas worker living at 54 Sycamore Avenue, and Mabel was a matron’s assistant living at Saint Osyth, Bridge Road, Oulton Broad. Their home was at Saint Leonard’s, 5 Highland Way, Oulton Broad.

By 1901 they were living at Sycamore Estate, Carlton Colville, and William was an agricultural labourer. Later his parents lived at Gisleham.

Thomas was born at Kirkley on 26 August 1886, a son of William Norton and Caroline Easter. He was baptised at Saint Peter's Church, Kirkley, on 28 September 1886 and his family lived at 7 Southwell Road. By 1901 they were living at 13 Southwell Road and Thomas was an apprentice bricklayer. In 1911 they were still, living at 13 Southwell Road and Thomas worked as a bricklayer. Later his mother lived at 15 Southwell Road.

Arthur was born at Oulton in 1882, a son of John and Harriet Anne Godfrey. In 1891 his family lived at Horne Hill, Kirkley, by 1901 they were living at Southwold House, Bridge Road, Oulton Broad, and Arthur was an apprentice carpenter and joiner.
By 1911 Arthur had joined the Royal Engineers and the Census shows him as a 2nd Corporal serving at Chatham. Arthur had enlisted at Ipswich.

Walter was born at Longside, Aberdeenshire, in 1893, a son of Walter and Jane Robson of Peterhead. In 1901 his family lived at 16 Wallace Street, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire. In 1911 they lived at 13 Backgate, Peterhead, and Walter was a labourer.

Peter was born at Lowestoft in 1884, a son of James and Elizabeth Annis. In 1891 his family lived at 1 Well Yard, Saint Peter’s Street, Lowestoft. In 1901 the family lived at 7-8 White Horse Street, Lowestoft, where Peter’s father was the publican, and Peter was an apprentice bricklayer. Later his mother lived at 22 Factory Street, Lowestoft.

Frederick was born at Lowestoft on 8 December 1876, a son of Frederick William and Elizabeth Naunton Baker. In 1881 his family lived at 8 New Nelson Street, Lowestoft, and by 1891 where living at 118 Denmark Road.
Frederick served an apprenticeship with his father's General and Ship-smiths business.

He was baptised at Saint Edmund’s Church, Kessingland, on 5 March 1916 and his family lived at Alma Cottages. In 1921 they lived at 2 Hadley Cottages, Kessingland. By 1939 Bernard’s family were living at 5 Hope Terrace, Kessingland, and Bernard was a pipe fitter.

Lloyd was born at Lowestoft on 3 February 1913, a son of Robert George and Gertrude Butcher. In 1921 his family lived at 90 Seago Street and this was still their home in 1939.
In 1935 Lloyd married Edith Rosa Juler: this was registered in the Lothingland district. By 1940 their home was at 25 Kirkley Gardens.
Lloyd enlisted in the Army at Ipswich on 5 March 1940. He joined the Royal Engineers and was posted to 705 General Construction Company in France.

Sidney was born at Lowestoft in 1896, a son of James and Emma Frances Brown. He was baptised at Saint John’s Church on 7 June 1896 and his family lived at 14 Selby Street. By 1911 his family were living at 101 Beresford Road, and Sidney was a telegraph messenger boy. In 1912 Sidney became as assistant postman at Lowestoft and, according to the Post Office memorial books for World War One, he was working for the Post Office’s Eastern Engineering Department when he joined the Army.

William was born at Chesterton, Cambridgeshire, on 8 June 1916, a son of William Henry and Marguerite Mary Ayers. In 1921 his family lived at 4 Vobslei Road, Mells, Frome, Somerset. By 1929 they were living at Corton and in 1939 their address was 1 Fair View, Corton.
William was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers on 12 September 1942 (London Gazette 9 October 1942).

In 1936 Alec married Pamela Louise Orford, this was registered in the Great Yarmouth district. In 1939 they lived at 4 Ferry Lane, Great Yarmouth, and Alec was a shipyard dock labourer. Later Pamela lived at 2 Brickfields Cottages, Somerleyton.

In 1939 Neville was living at 66 Stowmarket Road, Neeham Market, and he was a hairdresser.

William was born at Pakefield on 12 July 1897, a son of George and Emily Rolfe. From 12 July 1900 to 7 July 1911 William was a pupil at Cunningham School. In 1901 his family lived at Florence Road, Carlton Colville, and in 1911 at 1 Twyford Cottages, Blackheath Road. In 1915 they lived at 2 Blackheath Road, and later his parents lived at 182 Denmark Road, Lowestoft.

Henry was born at Great Yarmouth in 1881, a son of Henry Joseph and Mary Ann Collett Curtis. In 1881 his family lived at 17 Blackfriars Road, Great Yarmouth. By 1891 they were living at 3 Regent Road, Lowestoft, and by 1901 they were living at 28 Regent Road.
On 27 October 1899 Henry was awarded his certificate of competency as a Second Mate of a Foreign-going Ship.

Alfred was born at Lowestoft in 1882, a son of Alfred Charles and Elizabeth Chatteriss. In 1891 his family lived at 85 Saint Margaret’s Road and by 1901 at Bishops Buildings, Mariners Street, and Alfred was a baker’s assistant.
John Watson
An Acting Regimental Sergeant Major with the Inland Waterways Transport, John died on 15th of May 1918 at the age of 53.
John was a son of George and Jean (Jane) Watson. He is believed to have been born at Kintore, near Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, on 20 July 1864. In 1871 his family lived at a cottage in Thorns Forest, and in 1881 they lived at 5, Aberdeen Turnpike, Kintore, and John was a paper mill worker. By 1891 John was working as a stone mason and he lodged at 28 Whitworth Road, Plumstead, London.
