A Private with the 8th Battalion, Arthur died on 19th of July 1916 at the age of 25. 

Artur was born at Kirkley on 25 May 1891, a son of Last and Esther Freestone. From 1 June 1896 Arthur was a pupil at Kirkley School. He was baptised at Saint Peter’s Church, Kirkley, on 4 June 1899 and his family lived at 24 Beaconsfield Road. In 1901 they lived at 55 Beaconsfield Road, and this was still their home in 1911 when Arthur worked as a general carter. 

An Engineman with H.M. Trawler Tettenhall, George died on 23rd of May 1917 at the age of 25. 

George was born at North Cove, Suffolk, on 15 June 1891, a son of George Edward and Ellen Gladwell. In 1901 his family lived at Back Lane, Barnby. By 1911 the family were living at 6 College Street, Lowestoft. 

In 1911 George worked on the trawler Arimathea at Penzance.  

A Private with Plymouth Battalion, Royal Naval Division, William died on 23rd of July 1915 at the age of 25. 

William was born at Lowestoft on 2 July 1890, a son of William George and Martha Gorrod. He was baptised at Saint Margaret's Church, Lowestoft, on 7 September 1890 and his family lived at 9 Church Road, Lowestoft. By 1901 William's father had died and his family lived at 4 Raglan Street Lowestoft.

A Deck Hand with H.M. Trawler George Borthwick, Joseph died on 24th of December 1918 aged 25. 

Joseph was born at Pakefield on 7 April 1895, a son of Thomas George and Caroline Mary Ann Gosling. In 1901 Joseph, and his parents, were resident at the Union Workhouse, Oulton. His mother died in 1905 and his father in 1908. On 26 October 1908 he became a pupil at Saint Margaret’s School and at the time he lived with his brother Henry at 20 Saint Margaret’s Road. 

A Driver with 18th Division Headquarters, Neville died on 17th November 1942 aged 25. 

Neville, who was often known as Frank, was born at Saxmundham on 8 June 1917, a son of Francis William and Muriel Jennie Grice. In 1921 his family lived at Seafield, The Esplanade, Lowestoft. By 1939 his parents were living at Rockhill, Beach Road, Kessingland. 

In 1939 Neville was living at 66 Stowmarket Road, Neeham Market, and he was a hairdresser. 

A Deck Hand with H.M.S. Lavatera. Frederick died on 9th of December 1918 at the age of 25. 

Frederick was born at Walpole, Suffolk, on 20 April 1893, a son of Henry and Ann Griffiths. In 1901 his family lived at The Street, Walpole. By 1911 Frederick was living at Valley Farm, Walpole, and working as a farm labourer, but later he became a fisherman based at Lowestoft.  

A Gunner with 39 Headquarters Brigade, James died on 3rd of December 1918 aged 25. 

James was born at Lowestoft on 14 January 1893, a son of James Robert and Julia Gurney. He was baptised at Christ Church, Lowestoft, on 1 March 1893 and his family lived at Sparham’s Buildings. In 1901 his family lived at 56 The Hemplands, and by 1911 at 1 Hope Terrace, The Hemplands, Lowestoft, and James was a self-employed florist. 

A Private with 7th Battalion Suffolk Regiment, Arthur died on 23rd of March 1918 at the age of 25. 

Arthur was born at Lowestoft in 1893, a son of William Thomas and Mary Ann Hagg. In 1901 his family lived at Anguish Street. In 1911 their address was 21 Anguish Street and Arthur was a baker’s assistant.  

A Private with the 9th Battalion, Charles died on 13th of September 1916 at the age of 25. 

Charles was born at Lowestoft on 3 July 1891, a son of John and Sarah Ann Hales.  He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church, Lowestoft, on 24 July 1891, and his family lived at 4 Erskine Place. In 1901 his family lived at 5 Christchurch Cottages, Lowestoft. By 1911 they were living at 9 Gun Lane, Lowestoft, and Charles was a fish market labourer. Charles' sister, Hannah Hales, lived at Savory Cottages, Saint Johns Road. Lowestoft. 

A Sergeant with 1st Wing, Eric died on 12th of June 1943 aged 25. 

Eric was born at Bermondsey, London, on 5 September 1917, a son of Wilfred Edward and Margaret Amelia Hall. The 1921 Census shows Eric with his grandparents, William and Sarah Gooch, at 93 Beccles Road, Lowestoft. Eric’s father die din 1932 and by 1939 his family were living at 113 Wollaston Road and Eric was a shop assistant and roundsman. 

A Leading Seaman with H.M.S. Europa. Captain died on 22nd of March 1943 at the age of 25. 

Captain was born at Wenhaston in 1917, a son of Captain George Hammond and Florence Hammond. In 1921 his family lived at The Smear, Reydon, Suffolk. 

Captain married Joan Sybil Keeler at Lowestoft in 1937. In 1939 they lived at 28 Windsor Road and Captain worked as a general labourer.

Captain died at the Royal Naval Hospital Chatham. He had been suffering from cancer and pneumonia.  

A Private with the 1/4th Battalion, Francis died on 3rd of November 1917 at the age of 25.

Francis was born at Beccles in 1892, a son of George and Mary Holland. In 1901 his family lived at 1 Melbourne Terrace, Denmark Road, Beccles. Later his parents lived at 4 Rosemary Lane, Beccles. By 1911 Franceis was living with, and working as a market garden labourer for, Margaret Carey of Uralla House, Beccles. Later records show Margaret Carey as Francis’ foster-mother. By 1918 Margaret was living at Flowerlands, Lound Road, Blundeston.

A Private, Fred died on 12th of November 1940, at the age of 25. 

Fred was born at Lowestoft on 25 January 1915, a son of Fred William and Bessie Howard of 7 Bruce Street, Lowestoft. He was baptised at Saint John's Church, Lowestoft, on 12 March 1915. 

Fred's father was serving with the Norfolk Regiment when he was born and his father was killed in action in 1917. Fred's mother remarried and she lived at 85 Blackheath Road in 1939 (this was Fred's address according to burial records). 

A Skipper with the Royal Naval Reserve, James died on 26th of October 1916 at the age of 25. 

James was born at Bungay on 9 December 1891 and was a son of James Frederick and Elizabeth Howlett.

James married Annie Elizabeth Balls at Saint Margarets Church, Lowestoft, on 27 December 1913. They lived at 66 Ipswich Road, Lowestoft.

James was appointed Skipper in the Royal Naval Reserve on 11 April 1915 and from 16 April was given command of the drifter Datum.

A Deck Hand with H.M. Drifter Gleaner of the Sea, Bertie died on 26th of October 1916 at the age of 25. 

Bertie was born at Chediston, Suffolk, on 14 August 1891, a son of James and Anna Maria Hurren. In 1901 his family lived at Blackheath Cottages, Wenhaston. By 1911 his mother had died and his family lived near the Fox Inn, Willingham Saint Mary’s, Suffolk, and Bertie was a farm labourer. By 1915 they were living at Cliff Cottage, High Road, Kessingland.

A Rifleman with 2/17th Bn., Charles William died on 7th of August 1916 at the age of 25.

Charles was born at Lowestoft on 26 October 1891 a son of George Thomas and Janet Moody Kent. He was baptised at Christchurch, Lowestoft, on 18 November 1891 and his family lived at 35 East Street. His family were still living at 35 East Street in 1901. By 1911 his family was living at 66 East Street, Lowestoft. 

Charles joined the Army, at Lowestoft, and, initially, served with the 6th (Cyclist) Battalion Suffolk Regiment, service number 2076.

An Aircraftsman 1st Class (Pilot under training) with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Percy died on 16th of November 1944 aged 25.

Percy was born at Lowestoft on 23 February 1919, a son of James Percy Robert and Florence Viveta Killett. He was baptised at Saint John’s Church on 14 March 1919 and his family lived at 7 Wollaston Road, which was still their home in 1939. 

In 1942 Percy married Dorothy Franklin, this was registered in the Southwell, Nottinghamshire, district, and Dorothy lived at Little Carlton, Nottinghamshire.

A Private with the 7th Bn., Robert died on 13th of October 1915 at the age of 25. 

Robert was born at Carlton Colville on 22 September 1890, a son of Samuel Henry and Elizabeth Knights. He was baptised at Saint Peter’s Church, Kirkley, on 21 December 1892, and his family lived at Kirkley. 

A Private with the 18th Battalion, Arthur died on 20th of July 1916 at the age of 25. 

Arthur was born at Lowestoft in 1891, a son of Edward George and Alice Kathleen Lambert. He was baptised at Saint John’s Church on 5 July 1891 and his family lived at 5 Grosvenor Road. In 1901 they lived at 8 Windsor Road and they were still living there in 1911 when Arthur worked as a joiner. 

Formerly a Private with the Suffolk Regiment, Arthur died on 5th November 1918 aged 25.

Arthur was born at Beccles on 1 April 1893, a son of Harry and Jane Mary Larter. He was baptised at Saint Michael's Church, Beccles, on 31 July 1893. In 1901 his family lived at 12 Carlton Road, Kirkley. By 1911 they were living at 11 Beach Road and Arthur was a shipbuilder's labourer. In 1916 they lived at 87 Tonning Street and later Arthur’s mother lived at 6 Claremont Road. 

A Lieutenant with Motor Gun Boat 444, Edward died on 15th of February 1944 aged 25. 

Edward was born on 29 June 1918 at Heatherside House, Camberley, Surrey, a son of Lieutenant Charles Symonds Leaf, Royal Marines, and the Hon. Mrs. Catherine Blanche Leaf. By 1943 Edward’s parents lived at The Manor House, Freckenham, Bury St. Edmunds. 

Edward was a pupil at Marlborough and Trinity College, Cambridge. In 1937 he took part in an expedition to Ellesmere Land and Baffin Island, and in 1939. Edward was a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.  

A Private with the 7th Battalion, Joseph died on 26/27th of March 1918 at the age of 25. 

Joseph was born at Lowestoft on 6 May 1895, a son of Samuel Joseph and Minnie Linder. He was baptised at Saint Peter's Church, Kirkley, on 14 July 1895. In 1901 his family were living at 71 Lawson Road, Lowestoft. By 1911 Joseph's father had died and Joseph worked as an Assistant Inspector of Weights and Measures for Suffolk County Council.  

A Private with the 2/7th Battalion, Hedley died on 31st of March 1918 at the age of 25. 

Hedley was born at Dereham in 1893, a son of Alfred and Harriet Littleproud. In 1901 his family lived at Lynn Road, Gayton, Kings Lynn. This was still their address in 1911 when Hedley worked as a baker. 

On 25 October 1915 Hedley married Charlotte Emily Cadamy at Saint Nicholas’ Chapel, King’s Lynn. Hedley was a baker and they both gave their address as 9 Mill Fleet. Subsequently Charlotte lived at 6 Trafalgar Street, Lowestoft.

An Able Seaman of the trawler Quiet Waters, Gordon died on the 4th of January 1940 aged 25.

Gordon was born at Kessingland in 1915, a son of Edward W J and Florence Lilian Marjoram. In 1921 his family lived at 2 Zulu Cottages, Kessingland. Later his family lived at 1 Zeederburgh Cottages, Whites Lane, Kessingland. 

A report in the Sunderland Echo and Shipping Gazette, 6 January 1940, page 3, described the details of Gordon's death:

A Deck Hand with H.M. Trawler Strathrannock, Stephen died on 6th of April 1917 at the age of 25. 

Stephen was born at Pakefield on 13 February 1892, a son of Robert and Jessie Ann Martin. He was baptised at All Saints’ Church, Pakefield, on 8 May 1892. From 18 March 1895 Stephen was a pupil at Cunningham School. In 1901 his family lived at Cliff Gardens, Pakefield. By 1911 they were living at 9 Beach Street, Pakefield, and Stephen was a herring fisherman. Later his parents lived at 72 Pakefield Street, Kirkley.

An Engineman with H.M. Drifter Pelagia, John died on 28th of November 1916 at the age of 25. 

John was born at Lowestoft on 14 July 1891, a son of Herbert William and Caroline Frances Mills. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church, and his family lived at 34 Saint Margaret’s Road. John attended Church Road Board School and, from 1 February 1899, became a pupil at Saint Margaret’s School. In 1899 his family lived at 23 The Hemplands and by 1901 were living at 283 Raglan Street. In 1911 his family were still living at 283 Raglan Street and John was a drift net fisherman. 

A civilian working at the C.W.S. Factory, William died at the Lowestoft and Suffolk Hospital on 29th of November 1940 aged 26.

William was born at Lowestoft on 10 September 1914, a son of William Alfred and Rosie May Nunn. He was baptised at Saint John’s Church on 2 October 1914 and his family lived at 20 Kimberley Road. His father served in the Royal Naval Reserve in World War One and died when his ship, the Drifter Gleaner of the Sea, was lost in 1916. In 1921 William’s family lived at 31 Cleveland Road.

A Second Engineer with Steam Trawler Derwent (Boston), James died on 26th of January 1920 at the age of 25. 

James was born at Ellon, Aberdeenshire, on 15 October 1894, a son of William S. and Jeanie Ogilvie. In 1901 his family lived at 17 Harbour Street, Cruden, Aberdeenshire. By 1914 they were living at 8 Strachans Lane, Aberdeen. 

A Private with the 7th Battalion, Edward died on 5th of April 1918 at the age of 25. 

Edward was born at Blundeston in 1892, a son of James and Ellen Jane Osborn. In 1901 his family lived at The Street, Blundeston. By 1911 they were living at Ellen Cottages, Blundeston, and Edward was a fisherman.

Edward volunteered and enlisted in the Army at Great Yarmouth. When he enlisted he gave his first name as William. He joined the Norfolk Regiment, service number 12151. He was posted to the 7th Battalion and arrived in France with his battalion on France 30 May 1915. 

A Private with the 7th Battalion, Ernest died on 24th of April 1918 at the age of 25. 

Ernest was born Stotfold, Bedfordshire in 1892, a son of Andrew and Minnie Payne. In 1901 his family lived at The Crofts, Stotfold, and this was still their address in 1911 when Ernest worked as a butcher. 

A Master with the tug S. S. Aid (London). William died on 29th of November 1940 at the age of 25. 

William was born at Lowestoft on 1 September 1914, a son of William Henry Peek and of Elizabeth Charlotte Peek. He was baptised at Saint Peter's Church, Kirkley, on 30 October 1914 and his family lived at 12 John Street, Lowestoft. Later his family lived at Kendal House, Kendal Road, Lowestoft.

William married Gertrude Muriel Littlewood, of Great Yarmouth, at Great Yarmouth in 1937. 

A Stoker with H.M.S. Pembroke, James died on 4th of September 1917 at the age of 25.

James was born at Lowestoft on 14 August 1892, a son of James John and Florence Edith Pye. He was baptised at Christchurch, Lowestoft, on 31 August 1892 and his family lived at East Street. By 1901 his family were living at 1 Whapload Road. By 1911 the family home was 76 Whapload Road, and in the 1920s at 20 Chapel Street.

A Corporal with 2/25th Bn., Arthur died on 3rd of November 1918 at the age of 25. 

Arthur was born at Bethnal Green on 26 December 1892, a son of Walter John and Rosetta Read. He was baptised at Saint John's Church, Bethnal Green, on 28 January 1893 and his family lived at 108 Corfield Street. In 1901 his family lived at 80 Cyprus Street, Bethnal Green. By 1911 they were living at 30 Mendip Houses, Bethnal Green, and Arthur was a shorthand clerk and typist for a general merchant.

A Private with 1st Bn., Herbert died on 3rd of October 1915 at the age of 25. 

Herbert was born at Lowestoft on 5 July 1890, a son of Edward and Rebecca Robinson. He was baptised at Christchurch, Lowestoft, on 6 August 1890, and his family lived at 44 Clemence Street. By 1911 Herbert's father had died and his family lived at 35 Beckham Road. At that time Herbert worked as a brick maker's labourer. Subsequently Herbert's mother lived at 49 Trafalgar Street, Lowestoft.

A Private with 2nd Bn. Albert died on 22nd of October 1916 at the age of 25. 

Albert was born at Lowestoft in 1891, a son of James Caleb and Emma Louise Rouse. He was baptised at Saint John's Church, Lowestoft, on 6 December 1891, and his family lived at 16 Reeve Street. By 1901 they were living at 101 Seago Street and, in 1911, Albert worked as a theatre ticket checker.

A Lance Corporal with 2nd Battalion, Frank died on 22nd of November 1915 at the age of 25. 

A Private with the 7th Battalion, Frank died on 27th of March 1918 at the age of 25. 

Frank, otherwise known as Francis, was born at Lowestoft in 1895, a son of Francis Robert and Marie Elsie Sayer. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 13 August 1897 and his family lived at 4 Battery Green Road. By 1911 his family were living at Saint Margaret’s, The Marina, and Frank was a fish merchant’s clerk, possibly working for his father. Later his family lived at 94 Clapham Road, and his brother John lived at 19 The Esplanade. 

An Able Seaman with H.M.S. Elfin, Charles died on 16th of May 1943 aged 25. 

Charles was born at Lowestoft on 25 February 1918, a son of Sidney George and Mabel Dorothy Sayer. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 7 April 1918 and his family lived at 67 Roman Road. By 1921 his family were living at 87 Queen’s Road. Later his parents lived at Newlyn, Cornwall.

Charles married Evelyn Jessie Lee in early 1943. She lived at 52 Kirkley Run.

A Private with 7th Bn. Thomas died on 29th of August 1915 at the age of 25. 

Thomas was born at Kirkley in 1890, a son of George and Sarah Ann Secret. His mother died soon after Thomas was born.  

A Private with the 2nd Battalion, Sidney died on 12th of April 1917 at the age of 25. 

Sidney was born at Blundeston in 1892, a son of John and Alice Slater. He was baptised at Saint Mary’s Church, Blundeston, on 7 February 1892. In 1901 his family lived at Market Lane, Blundeston. By 1911 they were living at Oak Tree House, Blundeston Road, Corton, and Sidney was a gardener. It is likely that he was a market gardener working with his father.
