Harry Grice Sparkes

A Second Engineer with Steam Trawler Labrador (Lowestoft), Harry died on 23rd of January 1915 at the age of 25.

Harry was born at Hales, Norfolk, on 27 Mat 1890, a son of Alfred and Emily Sparkes. He was baptised at Heckingham, Norfolk, on 22 June 1890 and his family lived at Heckingham. In 1891 his family were living at Yarmouth Road, Hales. By 1901 they had moved to 6 Carlton Road, Carlton Colville, and this was still their home in 1911 when Harry worked as a herring fisherman.

A Sergeant with 233rd Machine Gun Company, Cecil died on 2nd of October 1917 at the age of 25. 

Cecil was born at Wenhaston in 1892, a son of John and Florence Annie Stofer. In 1901 his family lived at Brandeston Road, Earl Soham, Suffolk. By 1911 they were living at 6 Prospect Place, Pakefield, and Cecil was a printer. By 1917 his parents were living at 502 London Road.

A Petty Officer with S.S. Celtic Prince, Thomas died on 8th of August 1918 aged 25.

Thomas was born at Kirkley on 15 December 1892, a son of Thomas and Maggie Stollery. He was baptised at Saint Peter’s Church, Kirkley, on 24 October 1894. On 1 June 1897 Thomas joined Kirkley School and his family lived at Lorne Cottages. On 13 June 1898 he joined Cunningham School, and his family lived at Pakefield and in 1899 he returned to Kirkley School, and his family lived at Clement Square. In 1901 his family lived at Westleton, Suffolk. 

Pelham George Turrell

Formerly a Seaman with the Royal Naval Reserve, Pelham died on 15th of November 1918 at the age of 25.

Pelham was born at Kessingland on 9 July 1893, a son of Henry and Sarah Ann Turrell. He was baptised at Saint Edmund's Church, Kessingland, on 21 April 1901. In 1901 his family lived at The Beach, Kessingland, and by 1911 they were living at Hadleigh Cottages, London Road, Kessingland, and Pelham worked as a fisherman. Later his family lived at Russell Cottages, Kessingland.

Edward William Wales

A Private with the 9th Battalion, Edward died on 7th of June 1917 at the age of 25. 

Edward was born at Lowestoft in 1891, a son of Frederick Woolnough and Emily Grace Wales. He was baptised at Saint John’s Church, Lowestoft, on 6 December 1891, and his family lived at 15 Clapham Road, and this was still their home in 1911 when Edward worked as a furnisher’s assistant. 

Bertie Charles Ward

Formerly a Seaman with Benbow Battalion Royal Naval Division, Bertie died on 20th of September 1920 at the age of 25. 

Bertie was born at Herringfleet on 30 March 1895 (not 1894 as found in some sources), a son of George Frederick and Agnes Ward. In 1901 his family lived at 22 The Street, Lound. And they were still living at The Street in 1911.

Frederick Samuel Watson

A Private with 7th Canadian Mounted Rifles, Frederick died on 27th of November 1918 at the age of 25. 

Frederick was born at Lowestoft on 18 August 1893, a son of Frederick James and Caroline Elizabeth Watson. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church, Lowestoft, on 13 September 1893, and his family lived at 21 Cathcart Street, Lowestoft. In 1911 Frederick was a labourer working for a fish curer. 

Mervyn Alfred Weavers

A Sergeant (Pilot) with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, Mervyn died on 26th November 1941 aged 25.

Mervyn was born at Kessingland on 28 August 1916, a son of William Walter and Mildred Weavers. He was baptised at Saint Edmund’s Church, Kessingland, on 24 September 1916 and his family lived at 2 Poplar Terrace, Kessingland. By 1939 Mervyn’s parents were living at Bethel Drive, The Beach, Kessingland. 

John Shaw Willis

A Flight Sergeant with the Royal Air Force, John died on 22nd of June 1941 aged 25. 

John was born at Colchester in 1916, a son of John Albert and Ellen Willis. In 1939 his family lived at Hilldora, Elmstead Road, Colchester.

John was a senior clerk in the Colchester offices of the Pearl Assurance Company and volunteered for service with the Royal Air Force in 1938.

John married Margaret Hide Breach, of 263 Whapload Road, Lowestoft, in 1939, this was registered in the Ploughley district of Oxfordshire.

A Petty Officer Cook with H.M.S. Traveller, Richard died on 12th of December 1942 aged 25.

Leonard Walter Womack

A Private with the 2nd Battalion, Leonard died on 16th of September 1917.

Leonard was born at Lowestoft on 28 March 1892, a son of William George and Honor Womack. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church, Lowestoft, on 29 April 1892, and his family lived at 32 Crown Street. In 1901 his family lived at 81 Seago Street. By 1911 Leonard’s mother had died, his father remarried, and the family lived at 6 Kent Road and Leonard worked as a sawyer for a timber merchant. Leonard’s sister, Mrs. Abia Ethel Mulberry, lived at 98 Beeches Road.

Christopher Woodhouse

A Private with the 1/1st Battalion, Christopher died on 27th of May 1917 at the age of 25. 

Christopher was born at Sheringham on 2 May 1892, a son of William Henry and Caroline Woodhouse. He was baptised at Upper Sheringham on 22 July 1894. In 1901 his family lived at Lifeboat Square, Sheringham. By 1911 they were living at Weston Street, Sheringham, and Christopher was a general labourer for the county council. 

Christopher volunteered and enlisted in the Army at Norwich. He joined the Norfolk Regiment, service number 3519. 

Ernest Robert James Read Woolnough

A Sergeant with 197 Field Ambulance, Ernest died on 26th of December 1942 aged 25. 

Ernest was born at Lowestoft on 15 February 1917, a son of Ernest Charles and Ruby Elizabeth Rosamund Adams Woolnough. He was baptised at Saint Margaret’s Church on 29 April 1917 and his family lived at Oulton Street. Later his parents lived at 50 Lowestoft Road, Carlton Colville.
